I’m delighted to be teaching at the Dallas Pen Show and would love to welcome you to one of my penmanship workshops.

Whether you’re picking up a pen for the first time or looking to refine your writing, these hands-on classes are designed to help you build confidence through clear instruction, guided practice, and individual feedback. Choose from American Cursive Handwriting or Spencerian Penmanship — each offering practical instruction, guided practice, and plenty of time to write.

American Cursive Handwriting is an easy-to-read cursive style designed for comfortable, everyday writing. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the principles that create consistent, legible, and beautiful handwriting while developing confidence through guided practice and individual feedback.

Whether you’re beginning your handwriting journey or looking to improve long-established habits, this class provides a solid foundation you can continue practicing long after the workshop.

Spencerian Penmanship is a graceful American script renowned for its flowing letterforms, delicate rhythm, and timeless elegance. In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the fundamental principles that create beautiful Spencerian writing through proper movement, consistent letterforms, and guided practice.

Whether you’re new to Spencerian or looking to strengthen your foundation, this class provides the essential skills needed to develop a confident, expressive hand and continue your practice long after the workshop.

Experience Level: Recommended for students who are comfortable writing in cursive. No previous Spencerian experience is required.

  • Practice techniques for continued Spencerian study

Discover the playful side of penmanship in this one-hour introduction to Novelty Writing — creative and unexpected ways of arranging and presenting the written word.

Hong will introduce several unusual writing techniques, including cross writing, backward writing, landscape writing, and other novelty styles that can transform a simple handwritten message into something distinctive and memorable.

With the holidays approaching, these techniques can be especially fun for handwritten cards, greetings, and personal notes. No formal calligraphy experience is necessary — you’ll explore creative ways to use the handwriting you already have.

What to Bring
Please bring your favorite writing instruments—fountain pens, dip pens, or any pens you enjoy using—along with a ruler and ink.
